Midnight Star is a band from Frankfort, Kentucky, that was founded in 1976. The band has released nine studio albums since their debut, and are most known for their 1984 top twenty smash single “Operator” and their double platinum certified hit album “No Parking on the Dance Floor.” Midnight Star formed to perform the parties held on their university campus when each member was enrolled at Kentucky State University, and grew to the point where they could create a party anyplace else in the known cosmos. After making a name for themselves in their home state of Kentucky, the band travelled to New York City in 1978 to perform at a Solar Records showcase, which they acquitted themselves admirably. Dick Griffey, the head of Solar Records, signed the group personally, and their debut album, “The Beginning,” was launched in 1980.

Their second album, “Standing Together,” was their first to chart on the Billboard Chart, but it wasn’t until 1983, with their massive smash album “No Parking on the Dance Floor,” that they truly became mainstream sensations. The album’s debut song, “Freak-A-Zoid,” was a tremendous smash on the R&B charts, and the album went on to be certified double Platinum. Its follow-up, “Planetary Invasion,” was a similar-sized smash fueled by the band’s lone top twenty song, “Operator,” and while the band originally disbanded in 1990, they reformed precisely a decade later and have been touring ever since. Midnight Star comes highly recommended, with over four decades of expertise and some of the most rowdy live concerts in funk.
